What is the type of disbelief for which the person who commits it is excused for ignorance?
Question:
"The questioner 'Ayn Dāl says: "What is the type of disbelief for which the person who commits it is excused for ignorance?"
Answer:
"Allāh, Exalted is He, says in His honourable and respected book:
{Whoever goes right, then he goes right only for the benefit of his own self. And whoever goes astray, then he goes astray to his own loss. No one laden with burdens can bear another's burden. And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning)} [Sūrah Al-Isrā' 17:15]
Thus from the complete justice of Allāh is that He does not punish anyone except after the proof has been established on him. And Allāh, the Mighty and Majestic, says:
{This Quran has been revealed to me that I may therewith warn you and whomsoever it may reach} [Sūrah Al-An'ām 6:19]
Therefore whomsoever the Qur'ān reaches, then Allāh's proof has been established upon him. However ignorance may occur in some of the intricate and delicate issues and the complex (hidden) affairs; with regards to this the 'abd (worshipper, slave) may be excused.
And someone who falls into Shirk may be excused in the Hereafter, but as for in this life (the dunyā); he takes the rulings of the worldly abode. Thus whosoever worships other than Allāh, offers sacrifices for other than Allāh, seeks deliverance from other than Allāh, and makes Tawāf (circumambulates) around the graves of the Awliyā', believing that they benefit him and remove harm from him, then this is an act of disbelief and the person who commits it is a Mushrik (polytheist). However the affair of the Hereafter is up to Allāh, for indeed Allāh knows about his circumstance and his outcome, and He (Allāh) is able to do all things. However we deal with him in this life (the dunyā) as a disbeliever. And as for the Hereafter then its affair is up to Allāh. For Allāh knows best about all of us."
