The great sin of the one who misses the 'Asr prayer

“Whoever misses the `Asr prayer (intentionally), then it is as if he has lost his family and wealth.”

Meaning: as if his family and wealth has been robbed, which is is a very serious matter. How would the condition of a person be who leaves his house and when he comes back he can not find his family nor his wealth?! That would be a huge calamity. And in it is a big threat for the one who misses the time of 'Asr deliberately until it's time has gone by, thus if he leaves it off completely and does not pray it, he disbelieves. Like in the hadeeth:

"Whoever leaves the `Asr (afternoon) prayer (intentionally) will have all his (good) deeds annulled''.

And that is not only specific for the 'Asr prayer but rather for all of the prayers. However, the 'Asr prayer has been mentioned more due to it's special status and due to it being more neglected because it is towards the end of the day and in a time where people usually relax.
