Regarding Students of Knowledge who do not encourage their Pupils to attend the lessons of the Scholars because they warn against the People of Innovation
Question:
"There are some students of knowledge who do not encourage their pupils who study under them to attend the lessons of the scholars. Maybe they warn against attending the lessons of the scholars because they warn against the people of innovation and those who have errors in their methodology. Is it allowed for us to warn against these students of knowledge who withhold the pupils from attending the lessons of the scholars?"
Answer:
“You should not act according to their statements. Attend the lessons of the scholars and benefit from it and do not act according to the words of those who warn against attending their lessons. However, you should make clear to them that these lessons of the scholars are beneficial. That they don’t contain conflict against anyone, neither backbiting and bad mouthing. Rather they are virtuous lessons.
It might be that something reached him about certain lessons or about particular Mashaayikh, for today there are many who incite and slander. So it can be that something reached him because of which he suspected the bad. Therefore you have to inform him and eliminate this accusation (at-Tuhmah). If he accepts then praise Allah. But if he does not accept then leave him and devote yourself to seeking knowledge. Yes.”
