Reciting al-Fatiha repeatedly as Ruqyah
Question:
"...about the virtue of reciting al-Fatiha over the afflicted. Is it sufficient and can it be recited more than once?"
Answer:
"Yes, al-Fatiha is Ruqyah (reciting Qur'an and saying supplications over the sick seeking healing) and that is the reason why it is called ar-Ruqyah. It is a beneficial Ruqyah which is recited over the sick and the afflicted, because that is from the means of cure. And in it (al-Fatiha) is Du'a (supplication). All of it is Du'a. Du'a 'Ibadah (Du'a relating to worship)[1] and Du'a mas-alah (Du'a of request)[2]. All of it is Du'a. There is no problem in reciting it repeatedly over the sick and the afflicted. And in that is benefit for the sick because Allah cures him by way of it (i.e. al-Fatiha)."
[1] Du’a ‘ibadah is to praise and extol Allah, the Perfect and Most High, just as occurs at the beginning of Surah al-Fatihah
[2] Du’a mas-alah is to request something from Allah, the Mighty and the Majestic, such as requesting guidance and seeking provision and requesting knowledge from Allah and requesting tawfeeq (being granted success in obtaining what is correct)
