People say that those who visit graves and appeal to those buried therein commit a major Shirk but are not Mushriks, is this right?
Question:
“People say that those who visit graves and appeal to those buried therein commit a major Shirk (associating others with Allah in His Divinity or worship) but are not Mushriks (polytheists), is this right?”
Answer:
“This is not right. For, the visitors of graves who call on dead people for help, instead of supplicating to Allah, commit a major Shirk that was the committed by the disbelievers of Quraysh and other disbelievers, who used to invoke Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs) and other idols for help. However, those people should be warned against this practice and should be advised to return to Allah in penitence and to renew their faith.”
