Is it permissible for us to describe Osama Bin Ladin as being from the Khawarij?
Question:
"It is not hidden from Your Eminence what Osama Bin Ladin is doing by way of inciting the youth in the world and causing corruption on the earth, the question is: Is it permissible for us to describe him as being from the Khawarij[1], especially because he is supporting the bombings (that took place) in our country and other than it?"
Answer:
"Whosoever embraces this ideology is from the Khawarij. Whosoever embraces this ideology, calls and incites to it; is from the Khawarij, regardless of his name or rank. This is a principle. Whosoever calls to this ideology, which is revolting against the (Muslim) leaders, making takfeer of the Muslims and declaring the blood of the Muslims to be lawful is from the Khawarij."

السؤال: لا يخفى على سماحتكم ما لأسامة ابن لادن من تحريض للشباب في العالم، وأيضا الإفساد في الأرض، والسؤال : هل يسوغ لنا أن نصفه بأنه من الخوارج، لا سيما وأنه مؤيد للتفجيرات في بلادنا وغيرها؟
