How must one love Allah?
Questioner:
“He also asks, if you would Oh Eminent Shaykh, regarding the love for Allah...”
Shaykh Bin Baaz:
“He has to love Allah with all of his heart; a love that knows no equal. That Allah is more beloved to him than anything else. A sincere love, which demands obedience to Him and leaving off disobedience to Him.
And loving His Awliyaa and Messengers, and despising His enemies and hating them for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. And so he loves Allah. Allah, the Most High says:
{Say (O Muhammad, to mankind): "If you (really) love Allah then follow me...} [Surah Aal-’Imraan 3:31]
And He says about the believers:
{Allah will bring a people whom He will love and they will love Him} [Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:54]
So he has to love Allah with all his heart, with sincere love. And that Allah is more beloved to him than anything else.
The Prophet, may Allah send peace and blessings upon him, said:
“Whosoever possesses three qualities, will taste the sweetness of Imaan: That Allah and His Messenger are more beloved to him than anything else…”
So he loves Allah above everything and more than anything else. Then he loves the Messenger (صلى الله عليه و سلم) with a sincere love, after the love of Allah. He loves him for Allah’s sake, because he is the Messenger of Allah.
And he loves the believers, because they are the awliyaa and loved ones of Allah. And he hates and despises the disbelievers, because they are the enemies of Allah. This is how the believer is! Yes.”[1]
Questioner: “May Allah reward you with good and be kind to you!"
Footnote by translator:
[1] {Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity.} [Surah al-Mumtahinah 60:8]
