How do we admonish particular students of knowledge, who constantly preoccupy themselves with speaking about righteous scholars and students of knowledge?
Question:
“How do we admonish particular students of knowledge, who constantly preoccupy themselves with speaking about righteous scholars and students of knowledge, and speaking ill of them and declaring them to be innovators? For example, from amongst them there are those who say that Shaykh ‘Abdullah Ibn Jibreen and others, were innovators. So how do we admonish them?”
Answer:
“This is from Fitnah, and we seek refuge with Allah. This is from Fitnah, this is from Shaytaan! It is binding upon them to acquire knowledge from the scholars, and not to preoccupy oneself with tabdee’ (declaring others as innovators), tafseeq (declaring others to be sinners) or takfeer (declaring others to be disbelievers). Busy yourself with seeking knowledge. And when you have acquired a certain level of knowledge, then you will be able to differentiate innovations from the Sunnah, and who is an innovator and who is the Sunnee. This comes after you have studied. However, they are mere students or beginners. They should not busy themselves with these matters and should also not listen to those who spread these kinds of things and split the people.”
