How did the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) deal with those who used to insult him in Makkah?
Question:
"This questioner from France says: How, you mentioned - may Allah be good to you - how did the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) deal with those who used to insult him in Makkah? And how do we harmonize between the issue of disassociating oneself from the disbelievers and the issue of wishing for them to be guided and not oppressing them?"
Answer:
"There is no contradiction so that we have to harmonize, oh my brother. There is no contradiction so that we have to harmonize between both issues. Hence we don't love the polytheists, nor the disbelievers. But we don't oppress them without right, nor do we take revenge on them if taking revenge on them leads to something worse than the initial harm. Thus everything has its right place and its purpose. Yes."

فكيف يمكن التوفيق بين البراءة من الكفار وبين محبة الهداية لهم وعدم ظلمهم؟
الجواب:
ما فيه اختلاف حتى نوفق يا أخي ما فيه اختلاف حتى نوفق بينهما فنحن لا نحب المشركين ولا الكفار ولكن لا نظلمهم بغير حق وأيضا لا ننتقم منهم إذا كان الانتقام منهم يفضي إلى ما هو أكبر من الضرر فالأمور لها مواضع ولها حكمة. نعم
