Allah is the Rabb and thus He alone deserving of all worship
You may ask that if it is so well known to this extent, even Abu Jahl[1] was not ignorant about it, then why are we studying it and why is it mentioned in the Book (of Allah) and the Sunnah (of the Prophet, may the peace and blessings be upon him)?
The answer is that Tawhid-ur-Rububiyyah[2] is being studied and it is mentioned in the Book and the Sunnah in order to use it as a proof for the obligation of Tawhid-ul-'Ibadah[3]. So it is therefore to be said that since Allah is One in Tawhid-ur-Rububiyyah, meaning that if you believe that He alone is the Creator, the Provider, the One who gives and withholds, the Disposer of the affair of all things, then it becomes obligatory upon you to do all worship purely for Him alone. Because the one who possesses these qualities, he alone is the one deserving of worship. And as for the weak, poor and helpless created being, then he is not deserving of worship but rather the One who is able do all things, the One who is not in need of anything, the Self-Sufficient Master Whom all creatures need, He alone is the One deserving of all worship. Hence we use Tawhid-ur-Rububiyyah as a proof for Tawhid-ul-'Ibadah.
Footnotes:
[1] Abu Jahl and his likes believed in Allah as their Creator and Sustainer and that He created the heavens and the earth. But this belief availed them nothing because they ascribed partners to Allah by worshipping idols.
[2] To affirm that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer and Owner (the Rabb) of everything
[3] Tawhid-ul-'Ibadah or also Tawhid-ul-Uluhiyyah is to do all worship, such as dua, prostration, bowing, offering sacrifices, making vows etc, purely for Allah alone and for nobody else
Shaykh Muhammad Amaan Al-Jaamee, may Allah have mercy upon him
