Is it obligatory that the sisters wear only black?
Question:
"A sister asks, Dear Sheikh, May Allaah preserve you. Is it obligatory that the sisters wear only black, or would any dark shaded colour suffice? Please specify which colours are okay for the sisters to wear."
Answer:
"It is permissible for the sisters to wear any colour they like, whether it is black, white or yellow, as long as it is worn the way the women wear it and not resembling the dress of the men. For example, here in Saudia, the men wear a certain type of dress. It is not lawful for the sisters to imitate them. So, she may wear any type of clothing, as long as it is of the same category of the clothes worn by women, it is not permissible for them to resemble the men by wearing a pant and then the shirt on top. However, the jilbaab (gown) should be worn the way it is normally worn by the sisters."
