Explaining the third nullifier of Islam
The great scholar and Imam Muhammad Ibn 'Abdel Wahhaab, may Allah have mercy upon him, mentions in his treatise Nawaaqid Al-Islam[1]:
And the third (nullifier from the nullifiers of Islam) is: Whoever does not make takfeer on the Mushriks (those who associate others with Allah in His Divinity or worship), is in doubt about their disbelief or deems their ways and beliefs to be correct, has disbelieved.
The noble Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan explains this nullifier, saying:
And this one is extremely dangerous. Many of those who ascribe themselves to knowledge fall into it. Whoever does not make takfeer on the Mushriks. He says: "It does not concern me. I, and all praises belong to Allah, don't have Shirk and I haven't committed Shirk with Allah, but as for the people then they don't concern me, I don't declare them to be disbelievers."
We say to him: "Then you don't have any knowledge about the religion and you don't know what Tawheed and what Shirk is. You have to make takfeer on the one whom Allah has made takfeer of and on the one who has commited Shirk with Allah the Mighty and Majestic. You have to free yourself from him the same way that Ibrahim (may peace be upon him) freed himself from his father and his people.[2]
{Verily, I am free of what you worship, except Him (i.e. I worship none but Allah Alone) Who did create me, and verily, He will guide me.} [Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:26-27]
Or he deems their ways and beliefs to be correct, and this is even more severe. If he deems their ways and beliefs to be correct then this is more severe because he is basically saying that what they are doing is not Shirk, this is only taking intermediaries, or he says: "These people are ignorant and fell into this affair out of ignorance", and defends them. This one is a worse disbeliever than them because he has deemed their ways and beliefs to be correct. He has deemed disbelief to be correct and has deemed Shirk to be correct. Or that he does not deem them to be correct, however he has doubt. He says: "I don't know, I don't know!" What do you mean you don't know?!! Don't you read the Qur'an? And don't you read the Hadiths? And haven't you read the speech of the people of knowledge? What do you mean you don't know?!!
