What is the difference between Jarh wa Ta'deel and spying?
Question:
"May Allah be good to you dear eminent father, the questioner says: "What is the difference between Jarh wa Ta'deel and spying?"
Answer:
"The difference with Jarh wa Ta'deel is that this is in the science of the chain of narration. Jarh wa Ta'deel is in the chain of narration in order to authenticate the Hadeeth from the Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him, and to repel the lies away from him (may peace and blessings be upon him), and it is for a great benefit. As for backbiting and spying, then that is harm, pure harm and there is no benefit in it. Yes."

الجواب: الفرق بين الجرح والتعديل أن هذا في علم الإسناد الجرح والتعديل في علم الإسناد من أجل توثيق الحديث عن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ونفي الكذب عنه وهو لمصلحة عظيمة أما الغيبة والتجسس هذه ضرر, ضرر محض وليس فيها مصلحة. نعم
