The congregation is praying 'Ishā' but he still needs to pray Maghrib

Question:

"May Allāh be good to you. The questioner says: "A man is travelling and has delayed the Maghrib prayer to the time of the 'Ishā' prayer and found the congregation praying the 'Ishā' prayer. So should he pray the 'Ishā' prayer together with the congregation and then pray the Maghrib prayer thereafter, or what shall he do?"

Answer:

"He either prays the Maghrib prayer by himself and then joins the congregation in the 'Ishā' prayer and prays whatever he is able to catch together with them and makes up whatever he missed, or he joins them with the intention of praying the Maghrib prayer. And when they stand up for the fourth rak'ah (unit of prayer), he remains seated and busies himself with dhikr (remembrance of Allāh) and does not follow them in anything. When the Imām makes the taslīm (salutation of peace ending the prayer) he too makes the taslīm with him and will have had completed his Maghrib prayer. Then he prays the 'Ishā' prayer according to whatever is easy."
